Painted after an extended period of work in Lisbon, Portugal – Cascais is a small village north of the capital, accessible by the coastal railway link.

Myself and my colleagues would spend most Sunday mornings having breakfast on the beach side cafe, admiring the sea view or the activity around the small marina there.

I was struck by the vibrant colours, structures and shapes in this scene that compelled me to put it down in oils, after my first watercolour attempt could not provide the depth of colour I had experienced.
